How To Measure

Instructions for Measuring and Sketching Your Space

General Guidelines:

• Record all measurements in inches without rounding up or down.

• Ensure all measurements are legible.

• Do not measure individual cabinet sizes.

Step 1: Draw the Layout

• Sketch a line to represent each wall in the space.

Step 2: Measure Walls and Ceiling

• Measure the total length of each wall from corner to corner and record it.

• Measure and record the ceiling height.

Step 3: Mark Windows and Doors

• Add all windows and doors to your sketch:

  1. Start at a corner of a wall containing a window or door.

  2. Measure the distance to the outside edge of the trim on the window or door and record it.

  3. Measure and record the width of the window or door, including the trim.

  4. Repeat this process for each window and door on every wall.

Step 4: Include Appliances

• Add the placement of appliances to your sketch.

• Note the width and location of each appliance, including the sink.

• Record the distance of each appliance from the nearest wall.
